World Stroke Day – 29 October 2022: Theme, and preventive tips

Every year, on October 29th, World Stroke Day is observed. WSO (World Stroke Organization) established a global awareness day to provide a global platform for the stroke community to raise awareness and drive action on stroke worldwide.

●Stroke affects approximately 18 lakh people each year.
●It should be noted that strokes have increased by more than 100 percent in low and middle-income countries, including India, while they have decreased by 42 percent in developed countries.
●The average stroke incidence rate in India is 145 per one lakh (1,000,000) population.
●Three Indians have a stroke every minute, according to researchers.

The theme of World Stroke Day 2022

The World Stroke Day Theme for 2022 is "#Precioustime," which was decided by WSO to promote the World Stroke Day awareness and support campaign to speed up the previous year's 2021 campaign "Minutes Can Save Lives."

The theme for 2022, "#Precioustime," continues to encourage and educate people about the importance of stroke signs and symptoms and getting an early diagnosis to avoid complications. The theme also advocates for and appeals to other organizations and communities to support better facilities and provide opportunities for stroke victims to receive treatment as soon as possible.

When should you call for help?

At the first sign of a stroke, act quickly. We can use the letters F.A.S.T. to recognize stroke symptoms and know when to call an ambulance. Here, F.A.S.T stands for.
1.Face (drooping of the face)
2.Arms (arm weakness)
3.Speech (slurred speech)
4.Time (when to call an ambulance)

Preventing a stroke in the brain

The following precautions can help in stroke prevention:

★Keeping a Healthy Lifestyle
★Smoking should be avoided.
★Avoid drinking alcohol.
★Exercise on a regular basis
★Dietary changes include limiting sodium, meats, and sweets.
★Regular health examinations

As a result, it is critical to identify stroke symptoms as soon as possible and to act quickly, as millions of brain cells die every second after a stroke. Early intervention aids in the prevention of long-term disability caused by stroke. It is a pastime to educate people about the condition, the best course of stroke treatment, and preventive measures to assist them in dealing with the disease.
