Anemia is defined as having a lower-than-normal red blood cell count, and it is very common in older adults. And anemia becomes more common as people age.
Anemia Types
There are several types of anemia. Iron-deficiency anemia (when you don't have enough iron), vitamin-deficiency anemia (anemia is caused due to lack of vitamins), aplastic anemia (when your body stops producing red blood cells), anemia associated with a chronic disease (when anemia is caused by a condition like a kidney disease), and hemolytic anemia are all examples of anemia (when your body destroys red blood cells).
