World Food Day – 16 October: Theme and its importance

Every year on October 16, World Food Day is observed to highlight the millions of people worldwide who cannot afford a healthy diet and the need for regular access to nutritious food. “Leave NO ONE Behind” is the theme for 2022.

World Food Day 2022 falls during a year marked by numerous global challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, conflict, climate change, rising prices, and international tensions. All of this has an impact on global food security. The Food and Agriculture Organization is in charge of the event (FAO).

Importance of World Food day

It raises awareness
Malnutrition harms developing bodies and brains, and millions of people suffer from it. As a result, in order to ensure global food security, this health concern must be brought to the public's attention. And everyone should have access to nutritious foods.

Because hunger can be eliminated, it serves as a reminder
Our planet currently produces enough food to feed every human being. However, 1.3 billion tonnes of food are lost or wasted each year, accounting for roughly 20% of total food production. World Food Day serves as a motivator for people to get involved. They assist people in reducing food waste and contribute to the feeding of millions of people.

It emphasizes mindful eating
Although eating can be quite enjoyable and entertaining, we can overeat on occasion. Refocusing on mindful eating can be beneficial. Reduce food waste and the number of people who go to bed hungry. World Food Day serves as a reminder to avoid overeating and make environmentally conscious choices.
