World Sight Day 14 October 2022: Diet for healthy eyes

World Sight Day is an International Day of Awareness observed on the second Thursday of October each year. This year, World Sight Day is observed on Thursday, October 13, 2022.

World Sight Day serves as a reminder to appreciate your eyes.

Together with the Global Partners, IAPB (International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness) Patrons, and Members, IAPB invites you to consider the importance of your eye health and how you can protect and maintain it now and in the future.

WHAT IS WORLD SIGHT DAY?

WORLD SIGHTINGS DAY

  • It is a chance to draw the world's attention to eye health as a global issue.

  • Individuals, families, and communities are made more aware of the importance of eye health.

  • It is a platform for persuading policymakers to prioritize eye health initiatives.

  • Aids in the activation of global demand for eye health services.

IAPB coordinates World Sight Day, which is supported by nearly 200 IAPB Member organizations worldwide.

Theme for World Sight Day 2022

For World Sight Day 2022, IABP has decided to keep the hashtag "#LoveYourEyes." The 'Love Your Eyes' campaign encourages people to prioritize their own eye health while advocating for globally accessible, reasonably priced, and easily accessible eye care.

Diet for elderly eye care

  • Maintain a healthy, well-balanced diet

Include plenty of vegetables, fruits, and grains in your diet chart. This is critical for your elderly eye care. One of the major causes of many eye conditions is a lack of healthy eye nutrition. Consume plenty of fruits and vegetables. Fill your plate with different colours to promote elderly eye care. It not only improves your overall health, but it also protects your eyes from diseases like AMD and cataract.

  • Restriction on refined products

Reduce your sugar consumption. Specifically, white or refined sugar. As well as refined carbohydrates.

  • Consume whole grains

Include whole grains in your daily diet plan instead of refined white flour, rice, and so on.

  • Fats should be avoided

Reduce your consumption of oils, fats, and carbohydrates.

  • Consume alcohol in moderation

Because it interferes with liver function, alcohol lowers protective glutathione levels.

  • Reduce your intake of caffeine, coffee or tea, and soft drinks

Limit your intake of sugary beverages and other processed foods. Sugar is associated with an increased risk of heart failure. Reduce your intake of fast food and fried foods.

  • MSG should be avoided

Monosodium Glutamate, a flavour enhancer, may be a retinal toxin.

  • When purchasing processed foods, carefully read the ingredients list

Artificial flavourings, sweeteners, and colorings should be avoided. Avoid foods with hydrogenated and transfats. These interfere with the digestive process.
