Cervical Cancer: What You Need to Know!

Cervical cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in reproductive-aged women and the 4th most common cancer in women of all ages worldwide. This cancer, which has a mean diagnosis age of 50, is most commonly found in females aged 35 to 44. It is uncommon in women under the age of 20. Many older women are unaware that they have cervical cancer, which increases their risk as they get older. This cancer, however, is unusual in women who had regular cervical cancer screenings prior to the age of 65.

It could be fatal if not identified in its early stages. Cervical precancerous cells frequently do not cause symptoms till the disease has advanced to a dangerous & severe stage.

Cervical Cancer Symptoms

  • Unexpected vaginal discharge
  • Urine production has increased, as has urination pain
  • Abnormal bleeding occurs after sexual activity or in postmenopausal women.
  • Pelvic pain that is not associated with your menstruation
  • Symptoms of cancer of cervix are frequently associated with other medical issues. If a woman experiences any of these symptoms, she should see a gynecologist.

What can you do?

Vaccination

HPV vaccines can aid in the prevention of infection from both high-risk HPV types that can cause cervical cancer and low-risk HPV types that cause genital warts.

Screening

For women over 30, Pap & HPV tests (either alone or in combination) are recommended: each woman should ask her healthcare provider how frequently she should be screened and which tests are appropriate for her.
