Strategies to get ready for more old-than-young society

01-10-24

The Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation published the "Youth in India 2022" report.

India underwent a demographic change following the implementation of the new economic strategy in 1991, with a rising proportion of people under the age of 25.
The story of demographic dividend, where the young age population serves as the spine of the economy.

India's favorable demographic dividend is approaching somewhat of an inflection point, as the population percentage of young people is declining and the share of elderly people is expected to steadily increase between 2021 and 2036. The proportion of youth to the total population in the larger states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, which saw an increase by 2021, is expected to fall.
By 2036, it's expected that states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Himachal Pradesh would have more elderly people than young people.

Here are a few strategies for getting ready for a loving and generative future.

Sowing the seeds

Life is a beautiful journey from infancy to old age. By deciding how we want to be remembered and living in accordance with that, we have the opportunity to look past the delusion (youth lasts forever). Sow some new seeds, share your knowledge, and inspire the next generation with optimism.

Get ready for a new stage of life

Embrace the productive purpose of your older years. Consider this phase of life beyond adulthood as a period of time with its own integrity that could last 30 years or even more. It is worthwhile to take the time to consider what is most important to you at this time, and to plan for this new stage of life. Love your actions in all you do. This is a wonderful stage to contribute the best to society. Support and encourage young soles in as many ways as possible.

Combine a paycheck with a cause

As you move into the old age, you may need and seek a new purpose in combination with paid jobs. Look out for your passions, what you can contribute for the benefit of society etc. Let your ideas turn into actions.

Get proximate

Be mindful of where you choose to live, work, participate in activities, and spend your other free time. Spend time with your loved ones as much as possible.

Look for unique ways to connect

Technology is frequently held responsible for dividing people, especially the young and the old. However, there are methods to leverage technology to bridge generational and geographic gaps—and thereby support in-person interactions.

Let go and live on

To be really creative, one must use their knowledge and experience—whatever they may be—to inspire others, assist young people in accepting risk and failure as the best way to learn, and do whatever it takes for them to find their own path to their goals. Accepting this may be the only way for a more old-than-young society, to make the most of our life.
